Chris joined F Barnes in June 2016 as an experienced Commercial Property Solicitor.

Chris gained his degree (in Law with French) at the University of Kent in 1983.  He then completed his Articles of Clerkship training with Slaughter and May in the City of London, where he qualified as a Solicitor in 1986, and remained for a further eight years in their Property Department.

Since 1994, he has practised in Essex, mainly in private practice firms in Chelmsford and Brentwood, but also gaining experience of Local Government legal work with Essex County Council in the Environment & Property Legal Team and of the specialist secured lending industry for one of the main ‘challenger’ banks and bridging lenders.

With 30 years’ experience in such wide-ranging practices, Chris has worked on commercial property transactions of probably most kinds.  He has particular specialisms in complex and high-value real estate deals, difficult legal titles, consortium and collaboration structures, property aspects of business transactions across many economic sectors, landlord and tenant law, planning and infrastructure and insolvency-related cases.

Chris has acted for an enormously varied client base, from motor dealers to property developers, property receivers, schools, pub traders, charities, business entrepreneurs, farmers, industrialists and private clients, working for property dealers and investors and construction clients alike.  He also has experience of the ups and downs of property in the economic cycle as a whole.

In his spare time Chris enjoys running, music, golf and spending time with family and friends.
