A day in the life of Sangeet Tatem of #TeamFBarnes

Day 3:

As most of us start to get used to working from home to stay safe, some of us in the F Barnes family are 'Key Workers' helping the community in their hour of need.  Sangeet is mainly working from our Collier Row office working hard to keep our clients happy.

We take a look into a day in the working life of  Sangeet Tatem who is your experienced guiding hand in relation to Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Inheritance Tax Advice, Estate Planning and Wills.

How you finding it Sangeet?

I am ok, I have decided to come into an empty office to do my work this week as my clients files can be complex and substantial in size, have you seen my desk!!

I am usually busy all year round but the recent outbreak of Covid - 19 has sent waves of panic amongst our community. People are now focusing on putting their affairs in order. This has become a priority for many with a real sense of urgency in the air.

Many of my lovely clients are calling to discuss other apsects of their estate other than making a Will and for some they just need re-assurance that everything is in place and they can focus on staying well.

I have seen a huge increase in the level of new enquiries mainly concerning the making of their Will and a Lasting Power of Attorney for themselves or a loved one. Other areas of concern are amongst the younger generation that would not typically think about making a provision for their very young children.

These are unprecedented times, we are all focusing on different things as a priority and I need to make sure I can get to help them when they need me.

My usual day would involve seeing endless clients face to face. That's the bit I love. This has changed somewhat for me but I have had to work around this as the show must go on!

So what have I done to get around the self isolation?

I am able to take instructions remotely via telephone and video call to verify identification and validity of instructions. Once I have everything prepared and agreed I will arrange a time and place to meet to safely obtain their signature so that the Will or legal document is legally valid.

In the last week, I have been to supermarket car parks, general parks, peoples front gardens and spoke to clients through car windows. It's all been very odd but I am so pleased to have been able to help.
